My Yearly Sacrifice

I take this time each year to make a few sacrifices.  During Lent I pray for clarity and some sort of direction in my life.  I never want to be overly focused elsewhere and miss out on what God has in store for me.  I recently obtained my bachelor’s degree in business.  I did it to show my children they can achieve anything they want and it’s never too late.  Now I’m wondering if I should be using my degree and for what.  I have no idea what I want to do outside of real estate investing and I don’t need a degree for that.  Should I shoot for an analyst position which would be another 9 to 5 or wait until we are ready to dive into the real estate market within the next year?  I’m really not sure so I’m trying to remove a few things from my life to allow me to think more clearly.  I typically select two to three things to sacrifice.  This year I’m giving up beef, candy, and my personal Facebook page.  Beef will be the easiest for me.  As a matter of fact, the entire month of January I went without beef.  I noticed a difference in my waistline and the way I felt.  Candy will be a little more difficult.  I don’t usually eat a lot of candy but my husband loves to bring home tons of it.  I find myself indulging just because it’s there.  I have asked Don not to bring home candy and he agreed he wouldn’t once he starts his biggest loser competition at work next week.   He’s so evil.  I won’t be tempted anyway.  I do pretty well sacrificing during Lent.  It is important to me.  After very careful consideration, I gave up Facebook.  I struggled with the decision because of the Watering Our Seeds business page.  I found an app called Page Manager a couple weeks ago that allows you to run your business page without the need of your personal page.  At the very last minute and I mean last minute I decided Facebook would be my third choice.  At about 2am on March 1st, I was up because of a very strong storm.  I laid there contemplating whether or not I should give up Facebook and the only answer I received was yes.  I instantly deactivated my page.  There are so many reasons to give it up.  It drives me crazy at times.  I find myself constantly checking it, seeing the same things over and over.  I have a job that is not very demanding and I even find myself on it constantly throughout the day.  It annoys me.  The newly “conscious” politicians, the folks that feel the need to prove their “gangsta”, and the fake ballers drive me absolutely nuts.  I also realize I like people much better outside of Facebook. This will be a much needed break for me.  I may find that I don’t need to go back.  I have been working on changing my circle and this could help with that change.  I find myself disliking people simply because of their Facebook behaviors but in person that are the nicest people.  I want to know people for who they really are and not who they betray themselves to be on social media.  I also have to learn not to judge people based on their social media interactions.  This is something I will definitely be praying on during this time.

I will also take this opportunity to exercise more especially since I’m cutting out beef and candy.  I should be able to see a dramatic difference in my body afterwards.  Reading more is also on my agenda.  I will find some motivational books that will help me think more positively.  I will start with The Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes.  I have been trying to read this book for some time now but never got around to it.  This is the time.  I hope to come out of this period with some revelations on what I should be doing in life.  If not, at least I will have improved my health, removed negativity, and added some positivity.  Either way is a win for me.
